As Angier and Anna grow closer, they begin to uncover a sinister plot by the Catholic Church to exploit the witch trials for their own gain. The Church's inquisitor, Heinrich (Ron Perlman), is using the trials to eliminate anyone who opposes his authority, and Angier soon finds himself at odds with the powerful and ruthless clergyman.
