When repacking a scatter file, ensure you have a backup of your device's original scatter file. Incorrectly modifying the scatter file can brick your device.

Many users repack MT6592 ROMs to "port" a ROM from one device to another (e.g., porting a ROM from a Lenovo A850 to a similar MT6592 device).
If you have resized your /system partition to install a larger GApps package (e.g., from Nano to Full), the stock scatter file will no longer flash correctly. Repacked scatter files adjust the linear_start_addr and partition_size values.
