Episode 1 Squid Game Review

The most haunting image is the "Voting Room." After the massacre, players walk through a liminal space of stairs and murals depicting the other games (Dalgona, Tug-of-War, Marbles). The observant viewer will see the Squid Game board painted on the wall, foreshadowing the finale.

Gi-hun, trembling with fear, manages to cross the finish line just as the timer hits zero. The remaining survivors stare at the pile of corpses on the field. The Front Man (the masked leader) speaks over the intercom, congratulating the survivors of the first game.

The moment the first twitching player moves an inch during "Red light," the doll’s eyes turn red, and the player is shot dead on the spot. The silence that follows is deafening.

: Seong Gi-hun is a down-on-his-luck chauffeur who spends his money on horse racing and struggles to provide for his daughter. He is approached in a subway station by a mysterious man who invites him to play a higher-stakes game.
