Earlier in the finale, Rafael and Tatiana had stolen the gold from The Professor and buried it under a newly built house. Alicia Sierra tracked them down and, while held at gunpoint, handed Rafael the note. After reading it, Rafael immediately ordered his crew to stand down and allowed Alicia to take the gold to Portugal, trusting his uncle's final move.
